Centenary Activities
This week our pupils took part in activities to commemorate the centenary of the end of World War One.
In History lessons with Mrs MacDougall, pupils worked on a large tapestry of messages and images to remember the fallen. Each pupil was given a chance to say thank you to those who served and to remember those who fell.
In Maths lessons, pupils were learning about 3D shapes. Pupils made cubes with each side containing an image or fact about the Great War.
In English lessons, pupils studied war poetry, focusing particularly on the work of Wilfred Owen.
The week culminated in our Act of Remembrance for both junior and senior school. A number of pupils from all year groups, took part in a special assembly. Dr Reid delivered an emotional address to our pupils, during which he paid tribute to family members. Following a two minute silence, Heads of School Mark Bissett and Courtney Bell placed a poppy wreath below the commemorative plaque to remember the life of Constable Spence, a former pupil who died during the Troubles whilst serving in the Royal Ulster Constabulary.
