Letter from Dr Reid Re: Start of Term Arrangements
Dear Parents,
In any communication to the school community at the start of a New Year, I would want to wish everyone well for the next twelve months and express the hope that Christmas has been restful and enjoyable. I am all too aware that this year the Christmas season for many has been worrying and stressful, and that for some it has been marked by tragedy and loss. It is my hope that as 2021 progresses we come out of the shadow of the pandemic and that life can begin to return to some level of normality. I would also like to assure you that everyone in Larne High School will do their utmost to support your child through the coming weeks and months.
As you will now be aware the arrangements for the start of the new term have changed significantly since I last wrote to you. For the next four weeks all pupils in Years 8-11 will be taught remotely. The details of all work will be placed on Satchel One by the class teachers and pupils should continue to follow their normal timetable from home. This means that there will be three sessions of work set for each day.
School will be open for the supervision of the children of Key Workers during normal school operating hours. Please phone the school office between 10.00 a.m. and 12.00 p.m. on Monday 4 January to let us know if your child requires supervision in school. Parents should note that face to face teaching will not take place in school; instead children will be supervised to complete the work set online by their class teacher. School meals will only be available to children being supervised who are in receipt of Free School Meals. All other children must bring a packed lunch.
Pupils in Years 12-14 will be notified of their individual times for revision sessions for upcoming modules. Please note that these details have had to be changed to ensure strict social distancing of 2 metres between pupils so that any case of Coronavirus does not prevent other pupils from taking their exams. Pupils attending revision sessions must wear a face covering at all times while in school. Pupils who are medically exempt from wearing a face covering must bring a note from home to the teacher of their first revision session explaining why they are exempt.
If you have queries about the new arrangements, please contact the school office by telephone in the first instance. Parents should not come in person to the school without first having made an arrangement through the office by telephone.
With best wishes
Dr S. Reid
Principal
