Aims

· As a department we aim to develop student’s knowledge and understanding of key Christian beliefs, practices, traditions and cultures.

· Develop pupil’s ability to respond and to make moral decisions surrounding ethical issues.

· Develop positive attitudes and respect towards other cultures and religions.

Key Stage Three Curriculum

Topics covered

Year 8

· Starting a new school.

· All about the Bible.

· Jesus’ life in Palestine .

· Abraham.

Year 9

· Moses

· Miracles and parables

· Jesus’ relationship with other people.

· Judaism.

Year 10

· Choices and values

· The Death and Resurrection of Jesus

· The Christian Church

· Buddhism

Assessment

· Tracking assessments three times a year including Christmas and summer exams.

· Homework given twice a month.

· End of topic tests.

Key Stage Four Curriculum

GCSE - Full Course

Aims

· The department aims to develop interest in the contextual study of religion.

· To provide the opportunity for pupils to critically reflect on their own beliefs and values.

Exam Board

CCEA

Topics covered

· Unit 5- Christianity through the study of the Gospel Mark.

· Unit 6- An introduction to Christian ethics.

Assessment

· Two GCSE examinations lasting 1hr and 30 minutes. One at the conclusion of year 11 and one at the conclusion of year 12.

· School assessment- three tracking assessments throughout the year including Christmas and summer exams.

· End of topic tests.
